What does investing mean to you?
Investing means supporting an idea that has the potential to evolve and excel on the marketplace, in time.
How long have you been investing in startups and how many companies do you have in your portfolio?
I consider myself a newbie investor. My first investment was placed in March 2020, after a conference call with Ionut Pătrăhău. Ionut kickstarted my journey as an investor in startups and for this I am really grateful to him. Today, my portfolio has grown to 8 companies from 8 different sectors, and continues to grow.
What lessons have you learned from your early investment experiences?
In the beginning, I was tempted to invest in almost every startup because all their ideas looked brilliant. Over time, I refined my choices by analyzing in more detail the market competitors, as well as who are the startups’ promoters.
What do you look for when evaluating a startup - what are the most important aspects for you?
When evaluating a startup, I pay attention to the following aspects: the idea and prospects, the startup founders, and the market competitors.
Do you think it is important to have a diversified investment portfolio?
Diversity brings alternatives. Always diversify your portfolio to increase your success rate.
Do you have any advice for a startup investor who is at the beginning of their journey?
If you like the idea and feel like you identify yourself in it, go with the flow. From a financial perspective, investing in startups is a long-term process with two opposing possible outcomes: making a profit or losing all money. Startups are not like stocks. You can not pull your money out whenever you want, in case the investment goes in a good or a bad direction.
But for a founder looking for funding?
Body language and effective communication are key elements for a great presentation, of real success. When selling your idea to potential investors, put the right people on stage.
