Navigating the future of HealthTech
An interview with Alexandru Gheorghiu, CEO & Co-founder at InteroCloud

Today, we sit down with Alexandru Gheorghiu, the Co-founder and CEO of InteroCloud, a company making waves in medical technology. Alexandru is known for his resource management skills and clear vision to add value to the community through InteroCloud.

Join us as we explore Alexandru's insights and experiences at the helm of InteroCloud, understanding his approach to leadership, innovation, and community impact.

What journey led to the founding of InteroCloud? What inspired you to focus on practice management software, and how did your personal experiences shape this vision?

I've been fortunate in life! I got to spread my wings worldwide in my job and even pocketed some cash along the way. But as time rolled on, I felt this urge to give back. You know, that feeling of making a difference, but without the big, flashy show. That's when the light bulb lit up for InteroCloud!

I realized my homeland had issues that needed fixing, and technology was the game-changer. Surprise, surprise, no one was streamlining healthcare tech here! Can you believe it? Half the doctors were still relying on good old pen and paper because the digital stuff was just too complicated.

What makes us different? Well, our gang at InteroCloud has a mix of business brains who are great at selling and marketing and tech wizards who know how to design cool stuff. We cover all the bases, like a winning soccer team with offense and defense. We dig deep to figure out what doctors truly need and turn that into a tool they'll love using. It's like making a gadget that's a perfect fit for every doctor's toolkit!

What’s your current team?

Bogdan started it all. He came up with the first version of our product, working with a talented team in Cluj. Then Claudiu and I joined, adding our skills in sales and product development and figuring out what customers want. As we kept going, Dan joined as a top-notch developer. With his expertise, we made InteroCloud V.3, a highly competitive practice management software solution that over 400 doctors in Romania really like using for their clinics.

What specific problems does InteroCloud aim to solve in the medical practice management space?

Imagine healthcare as a complicated maze. We found out that half the doctors in Romania prefer old-fashioned methods because current software is too hard to use. Our goal is to simplify this maze. We make it easy to get started, have features doctors like, and help them learn how to use it. We're like trusted guides, not just giving them a simplified map but walking alongside them through the maze when needed.

How does InteroCloud differentiate itself from other solutions on the market?

We're good at figuring out what doctors need beyond the obvious stuff. Every practice management software out there covers the basics doctors need, like scheduling appointments and keeping records. But what makes us different is that we've listened to doctors, finding smaller, hidden needs. It's like a tailored suit with secret pockets, anticipating needs before they're even spoken.

What were the early signs that InteroCloud was gaining traction in the market?

There were no early signs; the MVP had a churn rate of 50% in the first 6 months. So, we rethought everything and made a second version, which was better, but still, 3 out of 10 customers stopped using it. We realized it wasn't enough. We had to start again from scratch, and that led us to version three. This new version is like grown-up software that solves the main problem: it's helping healthcare clinics in Eastern Europe switch to using digital tools.

Can you discuss any milestones that you are particularly proud of?

I'm extremely proud of my team. I truly believe that a company's most valuable asset is its founding team, because they set the tone for everything else. I take great pride in assembling a fantastic team, Bogdan, Claudiu, and Dan, who are all exceptional at their jobs and share a vision for making healthcare better with technology. Our approach revolves around fairness to everyone involved and a laser focus on meeting our client's actual needs.

Are there any particular philosophies or business leaders that inspire your approach to leading InteroCloud?

Two key principles guide our leadership at InteroCloud: meritocracy and prioritizing our clients. Meritocracy is like a fairness rulebook; it ensures that everyone's contributions, whether it's time, experience, fresh ideas, or funding, are valued fairly within our company. At the core of this rulebook are our clients. We work towards a deeper understanding of their needs and focus on creating the best solutions to meet those needs efficiently. It's like making sure everyone plays by fair rules, and at the heart of it all, it's about making our clients' experience the absolute best it can be.

Why should friends and investors believe in InteroCloud and its future?

Well, succeeding in HealthTech means knowing the region well and being great at developing a product while understanding customers. Not many companies are good at both; that’s why we're leading the way in Eastern Europe.

What risks and challenges do you see ahead for InteroCloud?

Sure, there are going to be challenges, especially when we expand to new places. But it's not just about the risks; it's about how well we can change direction and adapt if needed. Healthcare rules change from place to place, so we're ready to adapt fast. And I have full confidence in my team to do that.

What is the future roadmap for InteroCloud? How do you plan to utilize investments for the growth and development of InteroCloud?

Right now, InteroCloud covers what private clinics need most in a simpler and friendlier way. We plan to grow step by step in a modular way, giving each clinic only what they need. We will expand regionally, in Eastern Europe, looking to cover countries that share the same paradigm.

Our next big step in 2025 is creating an app for patients. It's about making the journey from feeling sick to getting treatment smooth and easy, using what we've learned from doctors to help patients.
