SeedBlink: Investeerders staken ruim 100 miljard euro in Europese tech startups in 2022
- SeedBlink, het Europese co-investeringsplatform, spreekt van een 'Great Tech Reset' in Europa, aangedreven door tech startups.
- Ondanks moeilijke omstandigheden hebben Europese tech startups in 2022 ruim 100 miljard euro opgehaald.
- Dat bedrag is lager dan in 2021 (118,8 miljard euro), maar de marktomstandigheden waren toen veel gunstiger.
- SeedBlink, met kantoren in Roemenië, Bulgarije, Griekenland en Nederland, bouwt verder aan een pan-Europees platform waar investeerders en startups elkaar vinden.

ROTTERDAM, 29 december – Voor Europese tech startups was het opnieuw een sterk jaar qua fondsenwerving. De sector toont veerkracht en gestage groei, aldus investeringsplatform SeedBlink, dat onlangs uitbreidde naar Nederland met de overname van de Nederlandse crowdfundpionier Symbid. "Ondanks de recessie, hoge inflatie en afname van financieringsrondes, is er meer dan 100 miljard euro geïnvesteerd in Europese tech startups, nu al voor het tweede jaar op rij", stelt Andrei Dudoiu, managing partner van SeedBlink.
Samen met onderzoeksbureau Horváth nam SeedBlink het snelgroeiende Europese ecosysteem voor tech startups onder de loep. Het investeringsplatform voor tech startups viert zijn derde jaar waarin het kapitaal kanaliseert naar de meest veelbelovende ondernemingen. SeedBlink kan bogen op een snelle groei in Oost-Europa, een regio die snel verandert in een tech-hub, met Roemenië als middelpunt. Dit jaar breidde SeedBlink uit naar de Benelux, met de overname van het Rotterdamse Symbid, als een nieuwe mijlpaal in zijn Europese groeipad.
De ‘Great Tech Reset’ in Europa
De toekomst ziet er veelbelovend uit. "De Europese techsector vindt steeds vaker financieringsmogelijkheden dicht bij huis, zodat de sector binnen Europa groei kan realiseren en niet afhankelijk is van de VS of Azië", zegt Dudoiu. De groei van Europese tech startups is zo sterk dat SeedBlink spreekt van een 'Great Tech Reset' in Europa.
Dudoiu: "We zien een versnelde digitale transformatie in alle Europese landen. De inval in Oekraïne heeft geleid tot een grotere focus op energiehervorming, met minder afhankelijkheid van externe bronnen. Aan de kant van investeerders zien we een groeiende belangstelling voor grensoverschrijdende investeringen."

Europese financiering voor tech startups en durfkapitaal blijft hoog
In 2021 vond de grootste Europese hausse ooit in venture capital financiering plaats. Tech startups als Northvolt, Paysafe, Cinch en Celonis haalden in totaal €118,8 miljard op. Voor dit jaar is de prognose 100,4 miljard euro. Dat is 16% minder dan in 2021, maar zeker geen geringe prestatie gezien de Russische inval in Oekraïne, de hoge inflatie en de economische tegenwind. Bekende bedrijven die kapitaal ophaalden waren onder meer FNZ, The Access
Group, Northvolt en Checkout.com. In 2020, het Covid-19 pandemiejaar, haalden Europese tech startups 46,5 miljard euro op, met Northvolt, Klarna en Revolut als enkele van de betrokken bedrijven.
In 2022 kende het Europese ecosysteem minder grote financieringsrondes, maar deze grote deals zijn nog steeds goed voor meer dan de helft van de totaal verstrekte kapitaalfinanciering. Het totaal aan investeringen in venture capital (in alle sectoren, niet alleen de techsector) zal in 2022 in Europa in totaal met bijna 10% dalen. De absolute
niveaus blijven echter boven die van 2019 en 2020, wat aantoont dat startups venture capital kunnen blijven aantrekken, zelfs in onzekere tijden. Centraal-Europa is een van de snelst groeiende regio's, met een groei van 11% in durfkapitaalfinanciering in 2022.
Venture capital partijen investeerden vooral in fintech, software, gezondheidszorg, energie en mobiliteit. Er is een duidelijk momentum zichtbaar voor duurzame startups. Deze bedrijven haalden in 2021 68 miljard euro op en zullen dit jaar naar verwachting 40 miljard ophalen. Europa is de tweede snelste regio ter wereld voor deze zogenaamde impact startups en haalt de Verenigde Staten in.
Europese kansen voor Nederlandse startups en investeerders
Robbin Hoogstraten, regional manager van SeedBlink Benelux, voorheen Symbid, stelt dat de Nederlandse startup investeringssector snel richting een meer Europees niveau beweegt, waar investeerders en bedrijven elkaar steeds vaker over de grenzen heen vinden. "Startups kunnen daardoor steeds meer rekenen op een echt Europees financieel ecosysteem en investeerders kunnen hun investeringsuniversum uitbreiden. SeedBlink loopt voorop in die
ontwikkeling, als een echt Europees aandelenplatform. Dit biedt grote kansen voor zowel Nederlandse investeerders als voor Nederlandse startups."
Hoogstraten is niet ongelukkig met de relatieve vertraging van de verstrekte kapitaalfinanciering in 2022. "In 2021 was het voor startups wel erg gemakkelijk om geld op te halen en snel uit te geven. Ze hadden veel kapitaalverstrekkers om uit te kiezen. De situatie dit afgelopen jaar is een gezonde correctie op die uitbundigheid. Europa is nog steeds booming. Het is tijd om voorzichtig te zijn, maar zeker niet bezorgd."
